The principles of butt fusion

For carrying out a butt fusion procedure the pipes to be joined will be clamped tension free and axis parallel into the basic chassis of the butt fusion machine. Then the pipe ends will be trimmed plane parallel by means of a planning tool. A heating element will be inserted between the pipe ends. During the alignment phase the pipe ends will be pressed on the heating element in order to equalise the pipe end surfaced.

During the pressure-less heat soak time, the pipe ends remain on the heating plate in order to receive enough heating energy to get plastified. Now the heating plate will be removed and the pipe ends will be brought into contact to each other in a fast but careful way. This butt joint remains under pressure until the temperature of the material decreased below its melting point. The result is a gas proof and pressure resistance connection of the pipes.
